Hentai is one of the most popular types of adult content in the world. Originating in Japan, this type of comic-book-inspired adult content is hugely successful around the world, with the United States being one of the largest consumers.
Hentai is very different from pornography in general. It is clearly different from other adult industries. For one thing, much of it is "reading material." Manga books are the main form of hentai (hentai videos and games are second). There are thousands of manga series, each with multiple issues, and fans either buy physical copies (rarer in the US) or browse translated versions on sites like HBrowse.
If you've never watched a hentai video or read a manga, its art style is very similar to that of anime. In other words, just imagine the sexiest anime girl you've ever seen and put her in an extreme sexual situation and you get hentai. So you can imagine that there are many points of overlap between anime fans and hentai fans.
Personally, I don't really understand the fascination with anime (honestly, I was into Jasmine as a kid). For me, pornography is great because it brings my fantasies a little closer to reality. I always wanted to fuck a sexy French maid. There are hundreds of thousands of videos of French maids getting fucked. It's okay if you think of the cock you're fucking as your own. But hentai seems to take that fantasy further and further away from reality.
Hentai differs from other genres in that it often depicts bizarre sexual acts in an extreme manner. There are pictures of young girls being raped by tentacles and half-human half-foxes sucking incredibly large dicks.
This is not surprising, given the meaning of the word "hentai" when translated into English: "hentai" means "hentai seyoku," which means something like "perverted sexual desire. Other translations take into account the connotation of the word and use translations such as "kinky," "weird," or "bizarre."
How HBrowse is different
But you won't find amateur or fan works at hbrowse.com - Hbrowse is, in their words, "a free online comic book reader and free download mirror for translated adult dōjinshi and comics from the Hentai manga database. We've divided all the hentai manga into several categories so they can be tailored to specific viewer tastes, and HBrowse emphasizes a minimal layout for unobtrusive and quick browsing."
That little note at the top of the home page (below the navigation bar, of course) gives the impression that everything they say is true. The site is impeccably organized and well designed. If you've read my other reviews, you already know very well how much I love minimalist web design.
And I can tell you that Hbrowse does just that. On the home page, the center frame with the site logo and the navigation bar above it clearly separates all of the site's functions. 'Menu', 'Overview', 'About Site' and 'Forum'.
Hover your mouse over 'Browse' and an extensive menu opens in front of you, where you can check the content by artist, theme, popularity, genre, relationship, status and length (to name a few items). In addition, when you click on "About Site," a drop-down menu appears with mission statements, category definitions (very helpful for newbies like me) and places to post content.
I especially like that it offers a simple and easy collaboration process. Once you click submit, you are presented with step-by-step instructions on how to submit your work for publication on Hbrowse. All you have to do is make sure you meet the requirements for your manga, double-check the database for duplicates of other publications, archive your work and upload it to any server, and share it in the forums.
This site keeps on giving.
As for the forums, they seem very active - with more than 24,000 games uploaded and more than 8,000 videos posted by users, the sense of community on Hbrowse is very strong. No wonder the site is so well and professionally designed; it's easy to imagine that Hbrowse will become the industry standard for hentai and manga fans.
But that's not the only thing that makes the site so appealing.
